　Operator 接線生, 這個工作在電信工程電腦化之後逐漸消失.

　以前在電信自動化之前, 打長途電話時, 必須先撥到電信公司的區域總局, 再把你的長途電話號碼告訴接線生(Operator), 再由她幫你撥打, 直到對方接通之後, 再把你們的線路接通.

　現在的Operator則是企業的總機或櫃檯小姐, 當你撥到某個企業找人, 卻不知道他(她)的分機號碼, 就必須由他們幫你轉接. 我在當兵時, 曾經做過營區有線電話的總機, 也就是接機生, 還是插銷式的呢!!
